Our Online Session Is On the calendar! 🙌
What is The Front Row Podcast?
Front Row Podcasts aims to help Southeast Asians better understand the coming Asian Century (from a Singaporean perspective).
I talk to thought leaders like you who have hard-won insights worth sharing.
Past guests include policy leaders like Kishore Mahbubani, Chan Heng Chee, business leaders like Jeremy Tan and Kenneth Chan, and authors like Irene Ng and Tan Siok Sun.
We think of the show as an intellectual appetizer , a conversational education, if you will. In a sense, we look at our episodes as the highlight reel of your best ideas. I do the hard work of immersing in your intellectual world and preparing the questions so that your ideas can shine.
Here is a sample just to whet your appetite ;)
Recording Tips
Join using your computer
We record using Riverside, which does not support mobile phones. Chrome browser is recommended!
Come camera ready
We record in both audio AND video.
Use a professional microphone if you have one
If you have a USB or professional microphone, that would be fantastic. If you don't have a microphone, please use corded headphones with a microphone if possible (AirPods/Bluetooth as a last resort)
Find a quiet room
Background noise is the enemy of a good recording. If you have kids or a dog that might be barking, please find a room where they are not. Acoustics are really important for good audio so this would be much appreciated.
Wear headphones
Please wear headphones for the recording, as the platform we use natively records the audio. If you use your computer speakers, the software has to do “echo cancellation” post-processing, which makes the call sound like we're using Zoom.
Turn off notifications
To stop any unwanted sounds or distractions during the recording, please turn off your notifications.
Close other apps
Keeping too many apps open can lower the quality of the recording, as they might be taking up some of the processing power required by the recording software. Close things if you can!
Using Riverside
I use Riverside.fm for our podcast recordings. It works just like a Zoom call, but if you feel like familiarizing yourself further, you'll find this video helpful.
Making A Superb Episode
We truly try to provide listeners with an insightful episode that will help them better understand the world. (This is why we wanted you on the show!)
Here are three things I have learnt that hooks the listener in:
1) Use Anecdotes in Spades
Listeners love to hear stories and examples to illustrate a point.
The best stories are the ones that you personally love.
(Even better, if you can use data to back it up!)
2) Share something novel
You likely do a lot of interviews.
This interview will be a great introduction (and nudge) for people to listen to MORE of your interviews.
To make that experience great, try to find something new to share in this interview that you haven't shared much (or ever) before.
3) You are the Yoda
You're on the show because you've earned some hard-won insight.
I will do my best to play the role of the student.
Please don't be afraid to share what you truly think!
